# Understanding Bounded Scope on Whetstone

> Whetstone engagements are fixed-session, defined-scope packages. Learn how scope is set and why it cannot change afterwards.

Every Whetstone engagement uses bounded scope: a fixed number of sessions and a written description of what is covered. No retainers, no open-ended hours, no scope creep.

## How it works

<Steps>
  <Step title="The scope is written on the package">
    Each package carries a plain sentence saying exactly what it covers.
  </Step>

  <Step title="It is copied onto your booking">
    At the moment you book, that sentence is copied onto the booking itself.
  </Step>

  <Step title="It cannot change afterwards">
    If Whetstone later changes what the package includes, your booking is unaffected.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  **This is the single most important protection on the platform, and it runs both ways.** The client knows exactly what they are paying for. The advisor knows exactly what they have agreed to deliver, and it cannot be stretched underneath them.
</Note>

## Why it matters in a dispute

If a problem is ever reported, the written scope on the booking is what the Whetstone team anchors on. Most disputes turn out to be a mismatch between that sentence and one side's expectations — which is exactly why it is written down before anyone starts.

## If you need more help

Book a new package, with the same advisor or a different one. Each new booking has its own scope and session count.

<Tip>
  If your challenge changes mid-engagement, say so in the message thread. A new package is usually the cleaner way to address a different problem.
